Colour-crazed, Congolese Dandies

This morning I finally got around to reading the Magazine supplements that come with the Saturday Guardian. In place of the usual fashion drivel, was an excellent article by Dylan Jones.
I am now fascinated by the colourful world of the Sapuers of Bakongo.
Daniele Tamagni's new book (above) sounds like a must buy for anyone interested in art, classic mens fashion and social anthropology.
The Sapeurs themselves are not just pretty peacocks, they are active pacifists with a strict moral code and high aesthetic. As Dylan puts it, 'The SAPE is a religion of sorts...
