Not Fade Away...

Buddy Holly backstage in 1958 Photo: DICK COLE

I saw a copy of this photo at the Proud Gallery on John Adam st. It is definitely the best picture of Buddy Holly that I have ever seen. All of the photos that I usually see of him present the cliched 'Boy next door' image of him (chunky glasses, floppy hair, cherubic expression)
But this photo is like Buddy does James Dean. He appears to be wearing Rayban Wayfarers, which just goes to show you that they've always been cool. Way before you-know-who started wearing them in like every press photo ever.
He was younger then me when he died and this month marks the 5oth anniversary of his death.

Rohan Kale, MA 2009 show at the London College of Fashion

Is this the same Rohan Kale from Dehli-based band Cyanide, or is it just a coincidence? Please feel free to enlighten me if you know the answer. Probably not but if so, hurray for multitaskers!

A little of track here, but I just wanted to express my love for this suit. If someone said to me, 'there are these amazing multi-coloured silky suits that you have to see', I'd be trying to restrict gag-reflexes but somehow Rohan Kale has managed to take an idea that sounds revolting on paper and turn it into a work of art. I think this suit (and the corresponding ruffle shirt beneath it) would also look stunning on a woman. I especially love the trousers. If you are a bit shy about wearing too many colours at once, the trousers alone would look amazing dressed down in a black shirt and some nice flats (or heels if you can bear the pain).

Are you wearing wellies in the snow?

I never ever thought that I would see it snow properly in London. Ever. My god it was even packing snow. This morning on the way out of the flat I built a mini-snowman and propped it up beside our door.

The neighbour came out with her kids. She seemed agitated as if they were all late for school. 'Mummy, mummy this is so cool. Mummy, mummy it's like a dream come true'.

Downstairs a man was busy building a giant snowman. I took a picture of him. He didn't seem to mind.

The city was so beautiful I could have cried. Even the loud, scary, scowling man in the jogging pants being dragged through the snow by his staff was beautiful.

People seemed united by a fearful loathing of the white stuff or overcome with childlike joy. I have never experienced such friendliness in London. Even my crappy boots from Clarks (strapy like Westwood's pirate boots but no where near as sexy I assure you) became a topic of conversation.

If there is any place in the world that desperately needs to be covered in snow it is surely London.
