Zombie Golden Girls

Making papier mache antlers and watching back to back episodes of Golden Girls, I was struck by the fashions worn by the characters (clearly too much time spent twisting a wire armature and sloshing back white wine). I decided to do a Google image search and found Chuck Hodi's wonderful zombie Golden Girls paintings:

The Christian Louboutin Barbie And Why You Don't Need It

I like useless tat just as much as the next neurotic shopper but I'm struggling to understand the appeal of the Christian Louboutin Barbie.

I Also find it weird that they are sold on Net-a-Porter with suggested shopping items being, you guessed it, actual human-sized Louboutins. Are the people who buy luxury footwear the very same people who obsessively collect adult barbies, stacking them on shelves and lovingly dusting the plastic boxes from whence they must never be removed?

Ick-factor increases with the cheesy-stained skin, I guess they were going for a 'tanned' look and bouffant hair.

I think Julie Newmar's Catwoman may have been an inspiration but somewhere along the line they veered disasterously away from that iconic image

Unless your Mama didn't hug you enough or you are very wealthy and suffering from a hording disorder there is really no reason why you should trouble yourself to acquire this.

Manish Aurora for Nivea

Apparently these came out this past summer but I've only just noticed them in shops now.

Too bad I can't use Nivea on my skin.

For Canadian residents: I spotted the star print jar on in the toiletries aisle of Loblaws supermarket.

Sequins For Your Nails

My first encounter with glitter nail polish was at the local pharmacy. The brand was North American drugstore staple 'Wet N'Wild', the glitter was the palest silver and minuscule. You would have needed 20 coats at least to get  your nails completely covered in glitter.

I was eleven years old.

A few weeks ago I was in downtown Toronto and I decided to pop into Forever21. I had heard a lot about the brand and was curious. At the check out they had discounted silver glitter and gold glitter nail polishes for $1.00. The polishes are made in America so I decide that in spite of their reduced price they must be of OK quality. I don't do cosmetics made in China. EVER. I was skeptical about their glitter coverage based on my first encounter with glitter nail polish and 14 subsequent years buying the stuff.

I used them to paint my festive twig display and then tried them on my nails. After just two coats I got this result:

Hurray!!!!
