Nuit Blanche 2011

2011 Nuit Blanche was great inspite of the drunken idiots making irreverant comments about the art  and in some cases dancing in front of and making shadow puppets using the art -as was the case with the Casa Loma projection (have I mentioned previously that hipsters make the worst drunks?). On the bright side an event like this would be impossible in a city like London -the security costs alone would make an admission price inevitable  -so pretty cool that Torontonians are still able to have a night of free art. Although we only made it out to Spadina House and Casa Loma this year I was still awed as usual by Nuit Blanche's almost magical ability to transform familiar spots in the city. Toronto would be a better place if we had free art events of this ilke more often.
World Wide Vision Production's, Silent Music Was easily my favourite Piece of all Nuit Blanche events that I have attended. It reminded me of a giant kaleidescope mixing and remixing the same familiar images to produce a unique projection each time. Inspired by chaos and the creation of the universe, sometimes as delicate as butterfly's wings or light filtering through coloured crystals and other times ferociously overwhelming, dizzying in the complexities of the pattern. Every now and again you would see a sliver of something familiar, a samurai's face or a mountain peak:

At Spadina House the theme was patterns found in nature, the resultant pieces were beautiful, humorous and sometimes eerie:

Wow, looks like you really hit the pavement! I'd love to see these shots in a flipbook style.
